SA Health, in partnership with Harrison McMillan, is excited to offer an exceptional Graduate Program, providing a unique opportunity to turn your knowledge into a fulfilling heath career.


This comprehensive program offers recent graduates a unique opportunity to develop essential skills within the critical realm of public health in roles such as:


  • Procurement, Logistics and Supply Chain Management
  • Digital Health (ICT)
  • Commissioning and Performance
  • Infrastructure
  • Workforce and Human Resource, and
  • The New Women's and Children's Hospital Project


Through a combination of hands-on experience, targeted training, and mentorship, participants will gain the expertise needed to provide you a unique opportunity to turn your knowledge into a fulfilling health care career.

Graduate Program Outline

SA Health are setting the gold standard for not only offering Graduates a stepping stone to begin their career, but a pathway in which they can obtain a wealth of hands-on experience and development in the dynamic world of healthcare.


Graduates will start at ASO3 level in the first year and will be supported throughout their two-year journey to advance their career to the next level. The Graduate Program will contain a combination of rotations in which Graduates will undertake formal and informal training opportunities and experiences. This will situate Graduates to leave the Program with a wide variety of options to take the next step in their chosen career.


Graduates will move through each rotation based on the outcome of the Performance Review and Development (PRD) process.


The Program rotations will vary based on the Graduates studies, specialisation and areas of interest.

What to Expect. Year by Year.

First Year

In the first twelve months, you will complete training and gain experience through rotations across various areas. This will allow you to develop foundational knowledge. At the end of the first year, a review will be undertaken to determine your level of  understanding and progress against your personal and professional development goals.

Second Year

Year two will see you build on your foundation knowledge through additional rotations. This will enable further learning opportunities in your area of strength. Opportunities may also be available for you to undertake a placement outside of your chosen division across SA Health.

  • Socialisation and Bonding

    Time for ‘catch ups’ are provided to graduates within work hours, in an informal setting – such as grabbing a coffee at the local coffee shop. SA Health support Graduates by ensuring there are opportunities for socialisation and bonding within the program.


  • Mentorship Initiative

    The Gradaute mentorship initiative is critical in providing Graduates with an experienced staff member as a point of contact outside of their line manager or immediate team. Each Graduate will be assigned a mentor at the beginning of the program, who will have experience that aligns to their stream.


    Mentors will initially be assigned on a 12-month basis and success reviewed at the end of this period.


  • Employee Assistance Program (EAP)

    Graduates are made explicitly aware of the EAP, and the process to apply, within the orientation and on-boarding process. The Employee Assistance Program is designed to assist all employees address work related or personal issues that may affect their personal wellbeing, work performance, their health or their safety.


    Through the program staff can access four free confidential professional counselling sessions per issue per annum for themselves or immediate family members

  • Young Professionals Group

    Graduates of the program are made a member of the SA Health Young Professionals Group, provided they meet eligibility requirements.

  • Diverse Opportunities

    You will be offered a variety of streams through rotations in which you can demonstrate your unique talents. A chance to perhaps spark a newly found interest!

  • Career Development

    The Graduate Program is designed to start you in year one at the ASO3 level and support you over your two-year journey. The Graduate Program has been designed to advance your career and will situate you to leave the Program with a wide variety of options.

Eligibility and Criteria

To be eligible for the SA Health Graduate Program, applicants are required to:

  • Have successfully completed a Bachelor's Degree or equivalent within the three years prior to the start date of the Program.
  • Obtain a valid National Police Check.
  • Be an Australian citizen, permanent resident or have an appropriate work visa; and
  • Uphold the Public Sector values and adhere to the Code of Ethics for the South Australian public sector.
